Many years have passed since brewing coffee was a standard and monotonous process. Man's constant search for new coffee-making techniques and new taste pleasures has resulted in the creation of different types of coffee, each of which offers a unique experience.
So let's explore the most popular types of coffee offered, not only in Greece but also abroad.
1. ESPRESSO
Well-known and beloved coffee that has won many fanatical fans in recent years in our country. A typical rule, which however differs depending on the coffee you choose, is the following:
Hot water (90°C) pressurizes 7g of ground coffee to give a 30ml cup of extracted coffee. The extraction time is 25”. Espresso is the basis for all the types of coffee listed below.
2. DOUBLE ESPRESSO (DOPPIO)
Double dose of espresso in a 60ml coffee cup.
3. RISTRETTO
It is prepared like espresso, but the extraction time is shorter. It's about
18-22ml strong, dark coffee with less caffeine.
4. LUNGO
It is the opposite of ristretto. The longer extraction time results in a milder coffee with more caffeine. Usually, 40ml-50ml of coffee is served.
5. CAFFE AMERICANO
It is produced by adding hot water to espresso. In an espresso cup, add 90ml of hot water.
6. MACHIATTO
To make espresso machiatto (spotted-stained) in an espresso cup, we add a very small amount of foamed milk.
7. CORTADO
Machiatto-like coffee was created to balance espresso with milk. Add 30ml of hot milk and a little foamed milk to an espresso.
8. CAPPUCCINO
In a large cup, first prepare an espresso and add 60ml of steamed milk and 60ml of frothed milk. At the end, you can add some cinnamon or chocolate.
9. CAFE LATTE
It consists of a single shot of espresso and about 300ml of steamed milk with minimal foam.
10. FLAT WHITE
Similar coffee to Café Latte with the difference that we only add 120ml milk without foamed milk.
11. MOCHA
A drink for chocolate lovers. In a single shot of espresso, add 30-60ml of cocoa powder/chocolate syrup, 30-90ml of steamed milk and top with frothed milk.
12. AFFOGATO
A coffee based dessert. In a glass, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a single or double espresso.
13. ESPRESSO FREDDO
Perhaps, our "national" coffee in recent years. Greek invention to replace the classic "frappe". Double espresso mixed with ice in the shaker or frappe. Served in a glass with ice.
14. CAPPUCCINO FREDDO
This coffee is made only in Greece, just like espresso freddo. Double espresso mixed with ice in a shaker or frappe. To make cold milk foam, beat cold milk in the frappe until it thickens. Served in a glass with ice.
